What was the very first piece of Trash? How did we get from things to trash? Is trash a kind of shit? Is stuff a kind of trash? All of these words are part of the language we use to describe the lifecycle of objects, how they ebb and flow within our ecology. It is only after we learn to derive synthetic materials can we really talk about things persisting beyond their organic lifespans, refusing to return to their origin. Overwhelmed with our own cultural detritus, we begin to expel certain things outwards. Unconcerned about their final resting place, we simply wish that they would go "away". Trash exists as a rupture in our ability to inhabit time. A marker of excess that cleaves physical space into the various logistic pipelines that brings the wanted closer, and that moves the unwanted far away.
